ECOMUSEO DELLA PAGLIA NELLA TRADIZIONE CONTADINA

History – 'magistra vitae' (i.e. life's teacher) in Cicero's own words – teaches us not to forget our origins, however hectic our modern lifestyle may be. We, the staff of the Ecomuseum of Crosara, strive to be diligent custodians of rural culture in which we are deeply rooted. Besides, we view our museum as a place where various generations can meet, exchange ideas, and get to know each other better, so that our living together can increasingly be characterized by mutual respect and enriching dialogue. The bulk of our exhibits illustrate the main theme of our Ecomuseum, i.e. the processing of straw in agriculture and home manufacturing, an activity which saw the participation of thousands of smallholders in the hilly and mountainous areas of the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni (Plateau of the Seven Communes) between the 17^th century and the first half of the 20^th century. Two of the museum rooms are dedicated to different themes: one to late cherries (a typical product of the hilly hinterland of the town of Marostica which is still grown today); the other to snapshot reconstructions of farmers' and tradesmen's rooms in days gone by. Finally, some of the remaining space is reserved for temporary displays that evoke non-material aspects of our heritage.

La storia, che è maestra di vita, ci insegna a non dimenticare nel ritmo incalzante della società attuale le nostre origini ben radicate nella civiltà rurale, della quale l'Ecomuseo di Crosara vuole essere l'attento e documentato custode, ma anche luogo d'incontro, sia materiale che ideale, tra generazioni diverse per una reciproca conoscenza e per una sempre più consapevole, rispettosa e proficua convivenza. Nelle sale è rivolta particolare attenzione al tema principale dell'Ecomuseo, la tecnica di lavorazione della paglia in agricoltura e nell'artigianato domestico, che ha coinvolto migliaia di contadini nella zona collinare e montana dell'Altopiano dei Sette Comuni dal 17° alla prima metà del 20° secolo. Altre due sale sono dedicate rispettivamente alla ciliegia tardiva, prodotto tipico delle colline marosticensi, di cui continua la produzione e ad ambientazioni delle dimore rurali e artigianali di un tempo.  Viene inoltre riservato spazio, di volta in volta, ad aspetti non materiali della nostra tradizione, ma strettamente collegati ad essa.
